The Centre for Applied Microbiology & Biotechnology (CAMB) has been created under the aegis of AMIFEM in the year 2006 with a vision and commitment to fulfill the goals of the Institute. The Centre is dedicated to carry out research and teaching programmes on the advanced topics of Life Sciences with a long term goal of protection of environment through pollution abatement measures along with development of strategies and technology for sustainable and effective bio-resource management for rural development.
Today, in the 21st century, microbiology has evolved as a major subject because of its bio-technological application in various fields like agriculture, food & dairy industry, pharmaceutical industry, chemical industry, environment management & human health management. The scope has widened further with application of Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Genetic Engineering besides the use of fundamental knowledge of Microbiology. Therefore, students choosing a career in Industrial Microbiology/ Biotechnology should be prepared to embrace a multi-disciplinary approach to meet the challenges of different fields. Further, study of Microbiology & Biotechnology would contribute to the greater cause of nature conservation because an in-depth study of these subjects reveals the delicate balance that exists between Mankind and Nature and brings out the importance of environment and bio-diversity preservation.
The Centre carries out fundamental research at the levels of BSc Biotech, MSc & PhD in the fields of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology. Besides the Centre also conducts R&D work for application of microbial techniques in the field and imparts various on-hand training programmes to students in different aspects of Applied Microbiology.
